Arab Women Organization Unites Arab States to Support Women Affected by Conflict

Background: 

The Executive Council of the Arab Women Organization has started a regional workshop focused on how wars and armed conflicts affect women and girls in the Arab world. The workshop was launched during the Council’s meeting held in Tripoli. 

The meeting was led by Houriya Al-Tarmal, Libya’s Minister of State for Women’s Affairs. She said that hosting the event shows the collective commitment of Arab countries to support women’s causes and work together to address the impact of conflict on women and girls. 

Al-Tarmal stressed the need to protect women and girls and increase their participation in social, political, and economic life. She called for the workshop’s ideas to be turned into practical actions that improve the lives of women and girls across the Arab world. 

She also urged stronger cooperation between Arab countries and regional and international organizations to ensure real progress. 

The meeting and workshop were attended by representatives from ten Arab countries, including Sudan, Jordan, Egypt, Kuwait, Oman, Yemen, Iraq, Palestine, and Morocco. More than 250 participants attended the event, among them 26 international figures such as officials, policymakers, and experts on women’s issues, alongside 30 Libyan politicians and specialists. 

The workshop is part of wider regional efforts to understand the difficulties faced by women in conflict areas and to create joint solutions that promote safety, strength, and lasting empowerment.
