Sharjah Women’s Sports Club has written a new chapter in regional women’s sport after being crowned champions of the inaugural West Asia Women’s Volleyball Clubs Championship, following a flawless and unbeaten run throughout the tournament.
The Sharjah side sealed the title with an impressive straight-sets victory over Kuwait’s Al Fatah Club in the final, played on December 13 at the Khaled Yousef Al Marzouq Hall at Salwa Al Sabah Sports Club in Kuwait. Both teams reached the final unbeaten, making the match a highly competitive contest.
Despite playing a demanding five-set semi-final the night before, Sharjah remained calm and focused. The first two sets were closely fought, with both sides matching each other point for point. Sharjah eventually edged ahead before asserting clear control in the third set to close the match 25–23, 25–22 and 25–15, securing the first title in the competition’s history.
The championship featured 12 women’s clubs from across the Arab world. Saudi Arabia’s Al Ula Club finished third after defeating Jordan’s Al Nasr in the third-place play-off.
Sharjah’s journey to the title began with convincing straight-sets victories over Qatar’s Al Arabi and Yemen’s Al Nasr in the group stage. The team continued its strong form with a 3–1 win against Kuwait’s Salwa Al Sabah, followed by a 3–0 quarter-final triumph over Saudi Arabia’s Al Fayha. Sharjah booked their place in the final with a tough 3–2 win over Saudi Arabia’s Al Ula, showing the team’s strong fighting spirit.
Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation, congratulated the players and praised their discipline and determination. Foundation officials highlighted that the title reflects years of integrated technical and administrative planning, as well as sustained support for women’s sport in the emirate.
Head coach Karim Bin Ayad credited the success to tactical discipline, mental strength and the players’ ability to perform under pressure. Club officials said the title boosts Sharjah’s position at the regional level and provides a solid base for upcoming matches in domestic competitions and future regional tournaments.
The team was warmly welcomed on their return to the UAE, reflecting the pride in their achievement and its importance for women’s sport in Sharjah and across the Arab region.
