Emirati athlete Maryam Al Farsi says she feels proud to represent Arab women and the UAE as she continues to make her mark in athletics.
The 18-year-old, who competed in the women’s 100 metres at the Paris 2024 Olympics, spoke at Run Yas 2026 at Yas Marina Circuit on Sunday about the honor of carrying her country’s flag at global events.
“I’m proud to represent Arab women and my country, and to wear the flag on my chest,” Maryam said. “It hasn’t been easy, but the journey has been incredible.”
She said her goal is bigger than personal success. “I want to open doors for future athletes, especially girls, so they can achieve even more than I have,” she added.
Maryam also aims to make sports more accessible to women in the UAE. “I want to help grow opportunities for the next generation,” she said. “For now, I focus on my studies, daily training, and preparing for the LA 2028 Olympics.”
She expressed gratitude to the UAE and local sports authorities for their guidance. “I’m thankful for the opportunities they provided. Athletics is still growing here, especially for women, and I couldn’t have achieved this without their support,” Maryam said.
Maryam added that her passion for running kept her motivated. “Loving what you do makes everything else easier. I never expected to compete in Paris or represent a major event, but staying committed and enjoying the sport brought me here,” she said.
