Background
Oman Sail will host the third Arab Women’s Sailing Championship from mid-October, bringing together around 30 female sailors from across the Arab region to compete at Barceló Mussanah Resort.
The championship, organised in partnership with the Oman Maritime Sports Committee and the Arab Sailing Federation, will feature competitions in the Optimist, ILCA 4 and ILCA 6 classes. Registration is now open, with national teams and individual sailors invited to participate.
The event will form part of the 15th Mussanah Race Week, strengthening Oman’s position as a leading destination for competitive sailing and supporting the growth of women’s participation in maritime sports across the region.
Hosting the championship follows strong performances by Oman’s national team in the previous two editions. Omani sailors secured medals in the Optimist, ILCA 4 and ILCA 6 categories, reflecting the country’s growing presence in regional women’s sailing competitions.
Acting Director of Sailing at Oman Sail Abdul Aziz Salim Al Shidi said hosting the championship reflects the organisation’s commitment to advancing women’s sailing in the Arab world. He added that competing on home waters will provide local athletes with an opportunity to perform at their best while inspiring more young women to take up the sport.
Arab Sailing Federation President Sheikh Khalifa bin Abdullah Al Khalifa said the championship continues to strengthen cooperation among Arab countries and provides female sailors with an important platform to compete at a high level.
Oman Sail said its women’s sailing programme, launched in 2012, supports the goals of Oman Vision 2040 by promoting equal opportunities in sport while contributing to long-term social, economic and human capital development across the country.
