UAE Strengthens Global Cooperation on Women’s Empowerment at BRICS

Background 

United Arab Emirates attended the BRICS Women Working Group Meeting and the BRICS Women Ministerial Meeting, where the member nations deliberated on methods to enhance women’s leadership roles, economic engagement and sustainable development through increased international collaboration. 

Represented by the UAE Gender Balance Council, the country joined discussions on leadership and governance, financial and digital inclusion, entrepreneurship, skills development, climate action, food security and nutrition. The meetings also reviewed the draft BRICS Joint Ministerial Statement and initiatives to support women’s digital capacity. 

The UAE said gender balance remains a key part of its approach to sustainable development and building competitive economies. The delegation presented the country’s policies and national strategies that support women’s participation in leadership, entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence, digital transformation and climate action. 

UAE also emphasized its national initiatives like SDG 5 Pledge, wherein 88 private companies have pledged that women’s representation in middle and senior-level positions will be raised to 30% by 2028. It also shared programmes focused on family support, technology skills and women’s participation in climate-related initiatives. 

During the meetings, the UAE delegation held bilateral discussions with officials from India, Brazil and Russia to explore cooperation in women’s economic empowerment, entrepreneurship, digital skills and policy development. 

The UAE welcomed the adoption of the BRICS Joint Ministerial Statement and reaffirmed its commitment to working with member countries to expand partnerships, exchange expertise and support practical initiatives that strengthen gender balance and women’s role in sustainable economic and social development.
