  • It can be taken fully or partially with unused days rules to be carried forward with approval.

Key Background

Dubai has initiated a historic policy that offers Emirati nationals who are employed in the government 10 days of full paid leave on their wedding. The action comes in the wake of demonstrating a commitment by the government to supporting family values, improving work-life balance, and offering firm backing to the public sector employees at times of significant occurrence in their life.

The policy offers the employees the full salary during the time of leave, along with all the benefits and allowances, besides job protection. The employees cannot be forced to work again for this amount of time, except under unavoidable situations such as military service. Even there, the employees can be offered the leftover leave days with respect and used at a different time.

The Emirati citizen employee who has completed the probationary period is eligible. The leave can be availed in a block or in bits and pieces over one year of marriage. The unused leave days have the authority of the approved supervisors to carry forward or roll over to the following year, with flexibility according to individual need.

The policy applies across government departments, judicial entities, military services (excluding cadets), and other public organizations, reflecting the broad commitment to enhancing the quality of life for Emirati employees. It aligns with Dubai’s broader workplace reforms, which prioritize family-centric benefits such as improved parental leave and flexible working arrangements.

By instituting this policy, Dubai is not only looking forward to enjoying the value of private life milestones but also wanting to instill loyalty, satisfaction, and efficiency among Emirati government employees. This action is a vision of the long order: designing a balanced and nurturing setting for raising not only the labor force but also the social fabric of the state.
