Arab women journalists have demonstrated a strong capacity to excel, contribute, and shape public awareness through their competent role in conveying truth and championing the causes of their societies and countries, a Jordanian senator said this week.
She made the remarks during a ceremony at the Arab Women Media Center marking Arab Women Journalists Day, where a select group of female media professionals and academics from Jordan and other Arab countries were honored for their professional and academic contributions.
The senator said the center has, over many years, stood as an Arab project rooted in belief in the role of media in development and in the ability of Arab women to innovate, influence, and drive positive change. She noted the center has served not only as a training institution and media platform but has also contributed meaningfully to building the capacities of Arab women journalists and strengthening their professional and intellectual presence.
The center’s founder and director said media is a mission grounded in ethics and responsibility, adding that the center has successfully pursued its journey and achieved its goal of serving media professionals. She noted that UNESCO provided significant early support that helped the center implement its plans and programs, and encouraged new generations to build on these achievements by continuing to develop media work using the tools and opportunities offered by modern technology.
Award winners also took part in the ceremony, narrating their professional successes and experiences while stressing the need for responsible media to serve society. The ceremony came to an end with the presentation of a documentary on important landmarks and accomplishments of the center.
